About :-

Cement is a fine powder that acts as a binding agent in construction, setting and hardening when mixed with water to bond materials like sand and gravel. It is a key ingredient in concrete and mortar, and is manufactured by heating a mixture of limestone, clay, and other minerals to high temperatures before grinding them into a fine powder.
What cement is
➣ A fine powder, most commonly a gray color, made from a mixture of materials like limestone and clay.
➣ A binder, or adhesive, used to hold other materials together.
➣ A critical component of concrete (mixed with water, sand, and gravel) and mortar (mixed with water and sand).
How it works
➣ When water is added, cement undergoes a chemical reaction called hydration.
➣ This reaction creates a paste that hardens, binding the aggregate (sand and gravel) together to form a strong, solid mass.
➣ Because it hardens even underwater, it is often called a “hydraulic cement”.
How it is made
➣ Raw materials such as limestone, clay, shells, and silica are heated to high temperatures in a kiln to form a material called clinker.
➣ The clinker is then ground into a fine powder and mixed with other additives, such as gypsum, to create the final cement product

Types of Cement :-

There are many types of cement, including ordinary Portland cement, Portland pozzolana cement, and white cement, each designed for specific applications. Other types include rapid hardening, low heat, and sulphate resisting cement, along with more specialized options like expansive and hydrographic cement.

Common types of cement
Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC): A general-purpose cement with high early strength, suitable for most construction applications.
Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC): Made by grinding pozzolana with clinker, it offers improved durability and resistance to water and chemicals.
White Cement: An ornamental cement used for decorative purposes, as it lacks the iron and manganese compounds that give Portland cement its gray color.
Rapid Hardening Cement: Achieves high strength in a short amount of time, making it ideal for projects where formwork can be removed early.
Low Heat Cement: Produces less heat during hydration, which is useful for massive concrete structures where heat buildup can cause cracking.
Sulphate Resisting Cement: Designed to withstand the damaging effects of sulphates found in soil and groundwater, making it suitable for foundations and infrastructure in certain environments.
Blast Furnace Slag Cement: Made by mixing Portland cement clinker with granulated blast furnace slag, it has excellent durability and is often used for marine structures.

Other types
Quick Setting Cement: Sets much faster than OPC, though its strength gain rate is not necessarily faster than rapid hardening cement.
High Alumina Cement: Sets quickly and can withstand very high temperatures.
Colored Cement: Standard cement mixed with mineral pigments to create a colored finish.
Expansive Cement: Expands slightly over time, which can be used to counteract the shrinkage of concrete during curing.
Hydrophobic Cement: Contains water-repelling chemicals and is designed to harden underwater.
Air Entraining Cement: Contains air-entraining agents that create tiny, stable air bubbles in the concrete, improving its resistance to freeze-thaw cycles.
